Mice

Are you wondering how Mice enter your home?

Mice enter homes through cracks and holes found along foundation walls, pipes coming into the foundation and  they also may enter the home through gaps in windows or ceilings.  A very common area for entry is the garage door, where the rubber strip is at the bottom of the door.

If this strip is chewed or simply worn due to age, mice will take the opportunity to enter your home at that spot. Often these garage door seals are replaceable by visiting your local hardware store or Home Depot. As a result of dropping temperatures outside, infestations tend to begin in fall, but infestations can occur during the summer months as well.

mice eat often

Mice do not see very well, they use their whiskers and extended body hairs to feel their way along walls. They are often nocturnal, keeping their busy behaviors to the night time. This doesn’t mean they will not be seen during the day.

Mice will often eat up to 20 times per day, this is why they like to be around humans, they will wait until evening and begin their search. Often they can be in the same room with you, and you don’t even know it. They can become very brave and visibly active during the day as they populate, the more mice in the home, the more often you will see them and or smell them.

Mice have been known to start fires by chewing electrical cords. Most electrical cords have insulation between the wire and the plastic, this insulation is often cured in fish oils when being manufactured

This to the mouse is a easy fast meal… Mice have also been known to chew wiring in automobiles and lawn equipment. Other hot spots for mice to nest are in hot tubes and ground unit air conditioners, these places make a great home for the mouse. Mice have been known to damage insulation in attics, crawlspaces and basements. These icky critters urinate between ceilings and in the insulation, often leaving stains on your ceilings and a nasty odor from the urine.

40% of the mice in New England carry Meningitis, so it’s important to address mouse infestations within the home as soon as they are discovered. Mice enjoy scouting during the night, looking for food and water, they will enter silverware drawers and get into food and pantry cabinets. Mouse dropping are often left behind everywhere they travel. When cleaning mouse droppings and urine spots, always wear gloves and cover your mouth and nose from any particles they may become airborne when cleaning up.

Copper mesh

A mouse control treatment plan consists of exclusion work around the home, sealing areas with copper mesh.

Then using a reliable bait like Final Blox from Bell Labs ( this product can not be sold to the general public ). Bait stations should be placed in the areas that the mice travel, such as sill plates in the basement and in the attic in some cases.
